Thirty years ago, my wife and I started the business that was to become Omega Global Logistics. My father was a customs broker for a large importer and manufacturer in Fiji and New Zealand and it was he who got me my first job in the industry. In 1993, by then an experienced customs broker, I started working for myself. I was soon joined by Andrew McLaughlin who is still with us today.
As our numbers and profile grew, we began trading as Omega Customs and Forwarding. ‘Omega' resonated with me. It’s a well known brand with a reputation for outstanding quality and dependability - attributes we hold in high regard. For me there’s the biblical meaning as well - the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, that for Christians signifies God’s omnipotence.
My approach to the way I run the business hasn’t changed much since those early days. A people person, I’ve always been a team player and believe that the people you gather around you are crucial. We’re a tight-knit group, passionate about what we do.
We believe delivery is everything. It applies to the safe, timely, cost-effective delivery of clients’ goods but also to the way we deliver our service. Nothing short of excellence will do.
My wife Lynda and I believe that good relationships, work or personal, don’t just happen. They need to be looked after. For many years, on a voluntary basis, we’ve run marriage and relationship courses. We’ve also taken many young couples through a 6-week pre-marriage course. After 40 years of marriage, it feels a real privilege to be able to impart some wisdom and encouragement to couples starting out on their lives together.
We’re big enough to move mountains, yet small enough to give you individual attention.
